The New York Games Conference concluded, and was a huge success. The focus of my panel was the future of MMOG’s -- it was an honor to be on such a distinguished panel of industry experts and specialists that share the same passion I do: Gaming. So what is the future of what we know of as the MMOG? (Massively Multiplayer Online Game). We know that there are a number of games that span the globe, starting from MMO’s that target young children (such as Club Penguin) to the full-on serious game MMO’s we have all grown to love (like the Dungeons and Dragons, Everquests, World of Warcrafts and Lineages).

What does the future of gaming look like with new MMOGs coming into existence at such a fast pace? Big Stage has a single word and belief that answers that question. Identity. The future of entertainment, gaming and MMOGs will revolve around the user's universal identity and projection of self into the digital realm. This identity is what Big Stage has set out to give to the world. This identity is called an @ctor.

The @ctor created will immediately resemble its creator with stunning precision, but will evolve and change as commanded by its real-life owner. The base version of you (Your Initial @ctor) will have the ability to morph and evolve into whatever version of you is most appropriate for your entertainment experience. Create and maintain as many alter egos as you can imagine. As numerous games come and go, the @ctor will evolve and become a part of each of the various gaming environments in which it sees fit.

There is no reason that the future of gaming shouldn’t revolve around us; our @ctor. Today, the MMOG is a simple extension of early video games. The user can become a character they design and forge their own relationships and tell their own stories on a daily basis. The user is now creating the adventure as he plays, and he and his network of online friends are the focus of it. Each user, regardless of how little they feel, are the focus of their own stories. They are the heroes and villains in the dynamic adventures they create.

Gaming and entertainment have gone to the next level. Users are becoming the focus of the entertainment -- personalization and ownership of every online experience is reigning supreme. It's important to note that even though the user does not have a way to accurately represent themselves inside of most games at the moment, they still draw intense connections to the on-screen avatars they create.

Welcome the persistent Digital You…the version of you that has the ability to die a thousand deaths and still live to fight another day. To become the fantasy, raid dungeons and save the planet from hostile enemy forces. This is the ultimate You. The version of each of us that we’ve all seen before in our own imaginations doing the impossible and living out our dreams, only to disappear just as fast as they were imagined. The only difference now is that there is a version of you that can make this reality. It's here, it's persistent and you are its creator. It’s your @ctor.

Our vision and dream is to make your @ctor more like you than you could possibly imagine, taking on all of your physical and behavioral attributes over time, speaking like you and even thinking like, and behaving in the virtual world as you would behave in the real world. This digital life form deserves to represent its creator to the best of its ability and we intend to give it that ability in the coming years.

What is the future of the MMOG? The MMOG will become the storybook for the online version of you, your @ctor. Each MMOG will serve as a unique adventure in which you will take part. Alone, or with colleagues and friends, the MMOG will become hyper-personalized as users begin to forge and define their new alternate online identities with the most important attribute at the core of every being they create. The Digital You, your @ctor, will become the cartoon character, the anime character, the villain, the hero and whatever else you see fit. It starts with you, becomes the fantasy, and the choices you make determine the final outcome.
